Special Master

A Special Master—also called a Discovery Master or Referee—is a neutral third party who may be appointed by a court to assist in complex disputes. The role of a Special Master can vary according to the case. Among other roles, they may hear all discovery matters in the dispute, evaluate claims, advise on various aspects of litigation issues, recommend settlement options, or mediate on contentious issues.
