Effective dispute resolution is becoming increasingly important no matter the size of your firm or the type of law you practice. This program will feature a panel discussion regarding practical tips and advice for handling mediation. The panel will also discuss the real world issues of diversity and inclusion, including generational and gender biases.

Jennifer Morrow, MDR, Executive Director Commercial Services Division at ADR Systems of America, LLC will participate on a panel discussion presented by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, Women in the Law Committee. The  program is titled “The Role of Gender on Mediation and Settlement Strategy.” Ms. Morrow will lead a discussion on “How Gender Plays a Role in the Mediation Process and Gender-Specific Strategies to Settle Cases”. The program is scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2013 from 12:00-2:10 pm at the Chicago Bar Association.

Ms. Morrow is the Executive Director of Commercial Services at ADR Systems of America, LLC. She has been working full-time in the alternative dispute resolution field since 1995. Having mediated cases herself, Ms. Morrow brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as Executive Director. She oversees the day-to-day operations of the Business / Commercial Division of ADR Systems, consults with law firms and companies on intra- and extra-organization dispute resolution systems design and complex, multi-party case management. The 2013 ABA Spring Forum on alternative dispute resolution in Washington D.C. will feature Hon. Stuart Nudelman, (Ret.), senior mediator and arbitrator with ADR Systems.  The meeting kicks off on Wednesday, April 24th, with the National ADR Forum, an all-day CLE program with a keynote luncheon address by renowned mediator Kenneth Feinberg and panels of nationally recognized and prolific mediators and arbitrators.

On April 24th, just prior to the keynote address, Judge Nudelman and other distinguished panel members from throughout the country will discuss “Mediating the High-Profile Case.”  Judge Nudelman and the panel will explore the special dynamics in these types of mediations and how to approach them, including judicial pressure, political considerations, public scrutiny, and public impact.

Mediation has become a strong preference for governmental and judicial bodies determined to relieve the burden on courts to resolve high-profile disputes, such as mass tort claims. For example, mediation has played an integral role in resolving claims arising from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the BP oil spill, and the Penn State University sexual abuse claims. ADR Systems’ senior mediator and arbitrator Hon. Philip L. Bronstein, (Ret.) will join a panel of distinguished speakers to discuss how lawyers and their business clients can capitalize on the unfulfilled potential of arbitration to resolve commercial disputes.

This panel will discuss how the advent of modern arbitration for commercial disputes began with much fanfare as a cost-effective dispute resolution process for business. However, despite some success that potential remains unfulfilled. The panel shares its International and U.S. arbitration experience to demonstrate how business can relate to arbitration through the use of a business-minded arbitration clause, which will result in a better-managed dispute resolution process. The discussion promotes with some simple changes the use of arbitration by business to resolve disputes as a flexible, cost effective process, in contrast to the public court system.
